Railway

JALVASUB aims to address the development and implementation of energy solutions geared towards decarbonizing the railway sector, contributing to the reduction of emissions and the transition to sustainable mobility models. In this context, the introduction of solid ammonia, developed by ATD, represents an innovative energy alternative that is completely carbon-free, with high safety standards and an energy storage capacity significantly higher than that of high-pressure hydrogen, positioning it as a strategic fuel for decarbonized railway applications.

Railway sector

Trains powered by PEM fuel cells
JALVASUB proposes energy systems based on PEM fuel cells powered by solid-state stored ammonia as a safe and reliable fuel, providing greater autonomy than trains powered by high-pressure stored hydrogen.
Incorporation of energy wagons
JALVASUB proposes modular energy products for railway propulsion, particularly using ammonia as fuel, facilitating the incorporation of energy wagons that would facilitate decarbonization. Energy wagons would be a transitional solution for existing trains.

Improvements over hydrogen

Solid ammonia can be stored at room temperature, eliminating the need for cryogenic or pressurized tanks.

Higher volumetric density than compressed or liquid hydrogen, allowing for greater range with less storage space.

Lower risk of explosive leaks than hydrogen gas.

Refilling solid ammonia is faster, safer, and easier than refilling hydrogen, allowing for quick supply, minimizing risks, and reducing downtime.

It can be cracked internally to produce hydrogen to fuel fuel cells, maintaining technological flexibility.
