Ammonia-based value chain
The proposal for a new value chain efficiently and sustainably integrates the generation of solid-state green ammonia from electrolytic hydrogen, its storage, and subsequent use, in parallel, in fertilizer production and on-site electricity generation from ammonia PEM fuel cells, all within a management and safety framework. The integration of control, monitoring, and safety systems ensures reliable, scalable, and safe operation, positioning ammonia as a key element in decarbonization and the development of new energy and production models.
ammonia
Advanced Thermal Devices (ATD) is a technology SME focused on researching new materials, especially catalysts for ammonia synthesis and cracking, electrolysers, and fuel cells. Its products include SAFT (Safe Ammonia Fuel Technology) for storing ammonia in a solid state.
New concept of closed ammonia synthesis or Ammonia Bottle. The bottles operate autonomously and asynchronously and can have different capacities.
Inert, non-toxic, non-flammable, no ammonia release at room temperature and 1 bar.
Ammonia safe for its handling, transportation, and storage.
Direct loading/reloading processes with the same material.
%
Up to 50% ammonia stored by total weight
%
less than 3% of stored energy consumption in extraction
Ammonia Bottle
Electrolysis
Integrated water electrolyzer, sized to supply high-purity hydrogen, with intermittent operation and a control and monitoring system compatible with the pilot plant's centralized platform for direct coupling to the ammonia synthesis system.
Ammonia synthesis
Ammonia synthesis system, fed with H₂ from electrolysis, based on scalable ATD modular reactors with proprietary ruthenium-free catalysts and operation at ambient temperature, with high-efficiency in situ extraction.
Storage of solid ammonia
High energy density solid pellets, pressure-free, no risk of evaporation, storable and transportable thanks to ATD technology.
Ammonia dissociation
High-efficiency catalyst cracking system made from common and abundant materials (without Ru) with NH₃ capture (less than 5 ppm) and H₂ or N₂ output flow.
Power generation systems
With an area designated for ammonia dissociation, one or more PEM fuel cell systems, and an energy storage and conditioning area.
Management and safety system
Centralized command and control system that enables integrated monitoring and control of all subsystems through real-time supervision, operation via HMI interfaces, and standard communication protocols such as MODBUS TCP.
