Maritime

At JALVASUB, we want to tackle the decarbonization of maritime transport, fishing, and recreational boating by gradually introducing our products into either newly built vessels or existing vessels by replacing conventional auxiliary generators with PEM fuel cell systems or modular cabinets. Given the power and autonomy requirements of maritime transport vessels, JALVASUB proposes the integration of distributed power generation on board, consisting of a combination of either systems or modular PEM electrical cabinets for propulsion and/or auxiliary power generation, always powered safely by ammonia.

Maritime sector

Sport or recreational boating
The proposal is to integrate both modular PEM systems, powered either by stored hydrogen or safe ammonia, and hybridized with batteries, which could provide the power needed on board, both for propulsion and for auxiliary systems.
On-shore power supply (OPS) of ships in ports
JALVASUB proposes the development and supply of containerized energy systems, powered by solid ammonia, to provide services to ships in port. These systems can be transported on board the ship for use in any port once they have been unloaded.

Completed projects

HIDRAM

Consortium project led by Astilleros de Mallorca and involving, in addition to JALVASUB, Astilleros Cardama and the SMEs Advanced Thermal Devices SL (ATD) and VENTOR Innovations. JALVASUB has led the development of a multi-fuel PEM fuel cell (H2/NH3).

1 kW PEM fuel cell module integrated with cracking and ammonia removal.

Cracker consisting of modular catalytic reactors with catalysts made from a new proprietary material, C12A7, doped in its latest configuration with highly available materials.

Replacing ruthenium to avoid dependence on foreign sources.

PEM module consisting of CCS MEAs with effective areas greater than 400 cm².

Catalytic layers that in their latest configurations have very low platinum content or are platinum-free, with new proprietary catalysts.

Combined fuel cell efficiency greater than 35%.

Development of conceptual engineering for the integration of these fuel cell systems in two types of vessels (mega yacht and tugboat), for net power ratings of 200 kW, thanks to the collaboration of SOERMAR and shipyards.

Development of a revolutionary new method for the safe storage of ammonia in solid form, owned by ATD.
